THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS
-
How is pure silver different to sterling silver?Pure silver, also referred to as fine silver has a silver content of 99.9%. Due to its high purity, fine silver is often considered too soft to use for jewellery, and hence why sterling silver is far more common. Sterling silver is an alloy comprised of fine silver and copper (sometimes other metals also) to make the resulting compound more durable and less soft. The signature stack rings and infinity pendant are intentionally made from fine silver so the fusing technique can be applied. Fusing is when a torch is used to quickly melt the metal at the join hence ‘fusing’ as it cools. In the case of the signature stack rings and infinity pendant the heat is applied for a little longer than necessary to get a molten/organic look. Fusing only works on pure metals such as pure silver and pure gold (24ct). Each and every piece always has it’s own characteristics and therefore always unique. See Wear & Care for details of how to care for your silver pieces.

What is Oxidised Silver?Oxidised Sterling Silver is the process of forcing the surface of the metal to oxidise at a faster rate to obtain a grey/black finish. This patina, or surface treatment does not change the metal’s internal characteristics. See Wear & Care for details of how to care for your oxidised pieces.

What is brass?Brass is an alloy, which means it’s material composition is made of more than one metal, in this case copper and zinc. The ratios of these metals varies with where it is made, which can result in brass having various colour tones depending on the manufacturer. When polished it has a similar look to 14ct Gold. See Wear & Care for details of how to care for your brass pieces.
